Obituary: Nurse H. Edwards
As briefly referred to in the last issue, the death occurred on Wednesday of last week of Nurse Hannah Edwards, one of Wedderburn's best known and best loved identities.
She had reached the age of 75 years, and it might truthfully be writtenof her that she devoted her life to the welfare of others. Extremely kind and charitable, her services were in constant demand and many in our town and others who have gone to fresh fields and pastures new, will bless her memory.
Midwiffery was her main occupation until she set up a private hospital at the southern end of High Street. There, all kinds of cases engaged her attention and she carried on in that establishment until the Bush Nursing Hospital came into being when she retired.
Of years lately her health had been far from satisfactory, in fact she had worn herself out in the earnest endeavours to alleviate the ills and sufferings of others. We offer our sincere sympathy to her bereaved relatives.
As could be expected, there was a large attendance at her funeral to the Wedderburn cemetary on Friday afternoon, this being conducted by the Les Appleby funeral services. The Rev. E.B. Cousins (Methodist) officiated at the graveside. The coffin bearers were Messrs Frank, Tom, George, Jack and Alan Edwards, and John Jones, while the pall was held by Messrs Bill, Jim and Reg Edwards, J. Haebech, and R & J Baker. The tray was laden with beautiful floral tributes.
