Ernstine was the seventh child of Carl Gottlieb Uebergang and Johanna Eleonora (nee Peucker) and was born in Bersdorf, Prussia in 1843. In 1863 she married Carl Mibus, a farmer of Croxton East, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St Michael's in Hochkirch (Tarrington). Pastor C.W. Schürmann officiated at the wedding and the marriage was blessed with three sons and two daughters. They made their home at Spring Creek where Ernstine resided for sixty years; the last twenty-eight years were spent in widowhood.
